26: Writing beets is not easy!

LAKE BUENA VISTA, FL – Hello, Everbudy!

Writing beets is not easy. I work all day and then somebody asks me to blog. I blog and then somebody asks me to write game stories. I write game stories and then somebody says something about me calling Manny Hernandez, Manny Fernandez. Well, I don’t have to take this! yOU LOOSERS!

Just kidding. 😆 Beet writing is growing on me – like a fungus, but there is plenty of ointment down hear at camp and I have made friends with some of the clubhouse attendants (wink, wink). Can get all the ointment I want.

Now, let’s talk some baseball.

I am very impressed with the direction the Braves appear to be traveling. There are some good young players in camp and one, Gorkys Hernandez, reminds me of a young jimmy smith. Gorkys is very good looking and highly intelligent but speaks almost no English. He has a major league arm and pretty good speed. Alas, Gorkys is only 20 years old so we won’t see him in Atlanta for awhile.

You can’t necessarily sit down and have a conversation with Gorkys, but he understands baseball talk and being around Chino he now understands donuts and milk shakes.

I am very happy to be hear at Dizney World. Mickey Mouse is very nice but not at all talkative. Donald Duck is also very nice. Goofy appears slow-witted – could be a beet writer in waiting.

When I got hear I asked for directions to Cracker Jack Stadium and the cab driver pointed at me and laughed. I thought it was because I am a beet writer but that was not it. There is no Cracker Jack Stadium anymore, it’s Champion Stadium – formerly known as Disney Field, Disney’s Wide World of Sports, Cracker Jack Stadium and The Ballpark at Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex. I think if they would pay their bills on time they would not need to change the name so much.

I am starting to like Bobby Cox. He is so forgetful. I think he puts things in places and then can’t find them later. Up close you can see that he’s put a lot of things on his cap – yuck!

Well, I leeve you with a beet writer story:

“Pardon me, lady”, said the beet writer trying to get back to his seat in the darkened movie theater, “but did I step on your toes a few minutes ago?”

“You certainly did!!”, said the woman in the aisle seat.

“Good, then I’m in the right row!” the beet writer said as he went back to his seat.

Pleeze, Carulina Lady, make me a collumist soon!

Bye, Everbudy! Go Braves!

There were four drops of rain so comcast went out for five hours.

The more I hear from and about Tex the more disgusted I get. Apparently the guy (who’s already FILTHY rich from playing a child’s sport) doesn’t give a crap about anything but how many gold bricks he can pile up. He doesn’t even try to hide it. He DID try to paint a picture about how Boras cares about his family, so there’s always the possibility that he’s a bit slow. Regardless, he’s made it pretty clear he’ll go anywhere that’ll pay him 170 mil instead of 160, which sounds even worse than Tommy G (who at least had the excuse of being a union rep).

I say we trade him for a few prospects who want to play baseball and who have a basic sense of respect for the fans who are responsible for their job existing in the first place.

No soup for you, Mark. Beat it.

    G’night.

Like I said before, Ride him (Tex) like a cheap mule and be prepared to move on. Just the way things are. I have no attachment for Texieria as he was a fully developed player picked up via trade. There is not the same attachment one gets after watching a kid develop through your system.

Boras is only worried about his own family, if he happens to help his client along the way, well for Scott that is a plus. Tex has no emotional attachment to the Braves either. They are just the team he is playing for right now. Same thing was true with Sheffield and J.D. Drew.

I can understand the frustration, been there and done that. It should really give fans an appreciation for Chipper Jones and John Smoltz, both of whom could have signed somewhere else for a lot more money. Not that they have done badly, just they could have made twice as much. Sometimes however, one does find peace and contentment with what they already have.

I have comcast for the internet but use DirecTV for my television service. It is cheaper and the choices are better. Anyone here much about Tyler Flowers before??? We may not cry too much over losing Tex, after all!!!!

Tape-measure shots: Typical of a pitcher, McDowell pointed out that the wind was blowing out during Monday’s batting practice. But nevertheless, Braves Minor League catcher Tyler Flowers still put on a show with a couple of tape-measure shots, including one that hit approximately 25 feet up an adjoining field’s fence that was located 460 feet from the plate.

MLB.com’s Marty Noble has been covering the Mets at this complex for 21 years, and he said he doesn’t remember a ball being hit that far.

“He hits the ball probably as hard as anybody we’ve got,” said Cox, who was including the likes of Chipper Jones and Jeff Francoeur.

Flowers, who is 6-foot-4 and approximately 230 pounds, has been the camp’s most surprising offensive player. While battling a sore knee and playing first base at Class A Rome last year, he hit .298 with 12 homers and a .488 slugging percentage.

While growing up in suburban Atlanta, Flowers was a fan of the Braves and Francoeur, who was a high school legend in the area. When Francoeur hit three homers and showed a 96 mph fastball while saving two games in the 2003 best-of-three state championship series, Flowers was in attendance.

At the time Flowers, who was two years younger and three grades behind in school, was marveling at Francoeur’s power. But after a few weeks in big league camp, he’s starting to realize that he’s now got similar power.

“I’m getting there,” Flowers said. “I can at least hang with [Francoeur] in [batting practice] right now.”

and does thorman have clown feet? or are these merely happy feet? and how important is foot work at first base? ask brian jordan.

and lots of rain today in atlanta. more song lyrics:

    Just singin´ in the rain,
    What a glorious feeling,
    And I´m happy again.
    I´m laughing at clouds
    So dark, up above,
    The sun´s in my heart
    And I´m ready for cheese.

    Let the stormy clouds chase.
    Everyone from the place,
    Come on with the rain
I have a smile on my face.
    I´ll walk down the lane
    With a happy refrain
Just singin’, singin’ in the rain.

    Dancing in the rain.

    More on braking stuff news:

According to ESPN (the same ESPN who employs stupid announcers), Brett Favre informed the Packers yesterday that he is retiring after a sure-fire first-ballot HOF career.

Apparently, Favre was in contact with Randy Moss last week and was willing to commit to more than just 1 more season if Moss could come to an agreement with Green Bay, but Green Bay did not pursue Moss, who resigned with the Patriots yesterday. This apparently prompted Favre’s retirement.

Yes Chris, good article. Ford is right in his assessment of human nature. I have worked with people who carried a grudge for a lot less. It is really about respect. The accolades are nice but we all know it is all about the Benjamins when it comes down to how a company really feels about you.

Let’s just hope that they don’t show “all the angles” that they showed us with Favre!

I don’t know; Deanna’s angles might be nice. But really, though; I’ve been sick of Brett Favre for three or four years now. Every single off-season he hijacks the media by holding his teammates and fans hostage with his “I’m not sure if I’m gonna retire yet” spiel. Yes, he was one of the greatest. Yes, his arm is still great and he could still play at a high level IF…IF he could avoid doing what the rawest rookies do that so frustrates everyone until they learn the game. Stop heaving desperation passes up for grabs in non-desperate situations and quit trying to show everyone how strong you are by squeezing tight passes into triple coverage. If your primary receiver’s triple covered, what does that tell you about your other receivers, Brett? The guy never learned how to play the position of Quarterback, and last year was a microcosm of his whole career (save one year). He played great until it counted, then heave hoed ill-advised passes during crucial times single-handedly knocking his team out of the playoffs. The Pack was every bit as good as the Giants, perhaps a tick better. The loss was squarely on Favre and anyone who thinks different can come over here and watch it on my DVR. The man’s the NFL’s version of Andruw Jones. He’s made a HOF career out of a strong arm and never bothered to learn the basic mental skills to run his position.

Loved watching him; won’t miss him.

    Now, wierd stuff.

Rolling Stones singer Mick Jagger escaped an assassination plot hatched in 1969 by the Hells Angels, a new British Broadcasting Corp. documentary has claimed.

A program to be broadcast on BBC Radio 4 on Monday says the rock star was the target of the plot following a purported dispute with the motorcycle gang over concert security.

Jagger had vowed not to use Hells Angel members as bouncers following the death in December 1969 of an 18-year-old fan at a notorious free performance at Altamont Speedway in Northern California.

In return, gang members hatched a plan to kill Jagger at his holiday home in Long Island, New York, the BBC claimed.

“The Hells Angels were so angered by Jagger’s treatment of them that they decided to kill him,” Tom Mangold, the presenter of the program, was quoted as telling Britain’s Sunday Telegraph newspaper.

He said the plan was disclosed during an interview with Mark Young, a former FBI officer, for the BBC’s “The FBI at 100” documentary.

Mangold said the men tried to reach Jagger by sea. “The boat was hit by a storm and all of the men were thrown overboard,” he was quoted as saying. They all survived but made no other attempt on his life, Mangold said.

So, does this mean God is a Stones fan?

    Now, sad stuff.

One of my favorite guitarists, Jeff Healey, died Sunday. I just read about it. He died at age 41 from a very rare form of cancer known as retinoblastoma. This is the same cancer that cost him his eyes (yes, those that you saw were artificial replacements) at age 1 and which he suffered from his entire life. In the last year alone, he had cancerous tissue removed from both lungs and from both legs. He was a talented guy. I remember the first time I heard him. I heard him playing See The Light on a New Years Eve live concert broadcast on 96rock in 1989. It absolutely blew me away and I bought the album 2 days later. (Turtles wasn’t open on New Years Day.) In fact, I’ve got some of his music on my iPod right now. I think I’ll give it a listen…

Victorino doubles over Brandon Jones’ head in left.
Utley grounds out to short. Victorino to third. 1 out.
Howard strikes out on four pitches. 2 outs.
Jenkins grounds out to third. 3 outs.

Great inning by Ohman against the lefties in the heart of the Phillies order. Good stuff.

Bottom of the sixth, as the winds blow and the sun ducks in and out here at the house:

Guzman pops out to second baseman in short right field.
Schafer pinch hitting for Ohman. He strikes out on five pitches.
Lillibridge doubles down the line in left. Three-hit day for Lillibridge.
Josh Anderson hitting for the first time. Liner off the umpire. Dead ball since it him the ump in the air. Lillibridge has to stay at second. Anderson at first. That ball must’ve been smoked. He’s now 5-for-11 in spring action.
(Anderson … that’s our boy, Lew!)
Borchard up for the first time. Slices one foul down the line that would’ve been a homer if fair (Pete says foul by 15-to-20 feet). Borchard pops out to the catcher in front of the Phils’ dugout.

Damn, how sad! 😦 He was a huge early jazz fan, 20’s and 30’s stuff, and he had an incredible ear for picking out who was soloing on records that there was no information on(Discographies didn’t exist back then!) He also had a small jazz Label in Canada that released a few early jazz cds…they were chronological…but he must have run out of money to finish them up. He put out volumes, 5, 6, and 7 on an unknown (To most people today) singer named Annette Hanshaw….

    He left behind a 13 year old, and a 3 year old….

I watched Brandon make some pretty spectacular plays in Richmond last year. I don’t think one game clinches it one way or the other for anybody. Actually, the more significant fact is he has options left to be sent down and I don’t think it would hurt him to spend a full year in AAA. I will take the word of our esteemed scouts as to Anderson’s and Schafer’s abilities. I just know that a lot can happen between now and March 30th.

And you two don’t find it strange the correlation between Jessie’s and Al’s visit to the homeboy and the call up of Willie Harris who was not the best outfielder on the Richmond club at the time? I liked Willie and thought he over achieved a bit but it was just plain obvious to me.

When you have a metro area as large as Atlanta which has a large African American population, you would be a fool not to tap into that possible fan base. I look at Washington and I see the marketing strategies already. It is just plain economics. Sorry but only and idiot would say there is no racial bias. As much as we would all like to say there isn’t, there just is. I don’t think it is right, it is what it is….

I remember wizard of id. Good stuff. I’ll take your word on Jones, Gil; but he didn’t look so great at the UGA game either. Maybe he’s out of shape or hurt, but the distinct impression I got was average at best speed, range, and throwing arm. Plus a bad decision or two. Maybe he just looked like that ’cause he was playing next to Schaefer and Anderson; who knows? But the out of shape thing is most likely since he didn’t practice once in the two weeks Lew was down there. He must have been in a heated game of Old Maid. 🙂

I think Brandon will either be sent down or traded and Josh Anderson will be the fourth outfielder. However, I checked Brandon’s fielding stats in the minors and he was near flawless. He only made two errors his entire time in the minors. All that was proved was that everyone occasionally makes a mistake.

Grinch-It wasn’t that he didn’t practice-he did. It was just not on the main field-which is unusual for someone who is expected to make the team and to be a part time starter. Anderson got all those reps on the main field. That tells me something and it isn’t good for Jones.

I’m with you regarding Jones, Lew, with the exception of the possibility of him being traded. Unless BC and FW know something about him that no one has caught on to yet, there’d be no need to trade him. It does strike me as odd that he did most of his work on those back fields.

Chris-When I went down to Orlando, you could not have convinced me he would not be platooning with Matt Diaz. But he got ZERO time on the main field-No BP, No Outfield and noting at all until the last couple days and then only for the running drills-which everyone took part in.

Anderson worked his butt off and really impressed everyone there. The guy can flat out go get em in the field. I saw him make several catches during BP that were nothing short of incredible, including one where he was playing almost to the wall in center and ran full out for 100 feet to catch one off his shoe tops.

During the UGA game, there was a runner on first and a ground ball hit to Thorman at first (Anderson was playing deep in right). Thorman threw wide to second, allowing both runners to reach. The ball never left the infield. Grinch and I just looked over and said “Damn, where did he come from?” almost in unison. Anderson was standing behind Thorman on first base, covering the bag.

Also during that game, he hit a bouncer to the pitcher and beat it out for a clean single. No one else on the team could have beat out that play. I still don’t know how Anderson did, but he got a single out of it. Funny thing is-Jordan Schafer is even faster.

Lew, I saw Anderson play once about four years ago at Myrtle Beach. He was playing for Salem and a friend of mine and I went up to get some autographs. We both particularly wanted him and Jason Hirsh as they were both in a set we were working on at the time. We got into the park just as the players were coming out of the clubhouse onto the field for their pre-game warm ups (stretching, running, pepper, etc.) Anderson had this look on his face like he was a man possessed. Very intense. Everyone and I mean EVERYONE else on the team made their way over to the dugout after they warmed up except for him. He kept going. Finally, with just a few minutes to spare he came over to sign for us. With the expression that he’d had on his face, we were a little anxious about how he would be. Didn’t come off as a super nice guy, say like Frenchy. But we were both surprised by him. He couldn’t have been any nicer. You’re right, he is very fast. I hope he fills that 4th OF spot this year. I always like to root for the nice guys.

Before chiming in I usually like to start from the top to catch up and see what kind of subject matter is being discussed so as to not repeat or be too far behind in the banter and all. As you know, it can seem pretty cryptic if you start from the bottom.

Winced through the testicle discussion alright I suppose. Not a pleasant subject, so I’ll avoid twisting that topic into the ground any further. It’s already been about as twisted into the ground as a Marcus Giles home run swing… or was that a Rafael Furcal swing?

    G’morning, all.

I have been catching up on the overnights… ow!

I don’t exactly know how one acquires a twisted testy, and I don’t want to know. I hurt thinking about it. 😯

Now, stuff. Wierd storms yesterday. Alot of rain, alot of wind, alot of sun. After leaving the gym (working on BSMOL), I made a quick stop at Target to run an errand for my daughter. They stopped me at the door telling me that we were under a tornado warning and that I couldn’t enter. First, I looked up and there was literally not a cloud in the sky. Second, wouldn’t I have been safer inside the store than out in a parking lot? Nobody wants to be standing outside when a twister comes along (especially Felix Pie).

B III: I read yesterday about Jeff Healey’s love of jazz. Aside from being a phenomenal guitarist, he also played the trumpet and trombone. Another example of a tortured artist (of the non-Lew type) whose life is ended too early. The music world lost a jewel.

Grinch & FBG. Nothing wrong with having kids IF you’re ready for them. As long as you embrace parenthood, it is the greatest earthly blessing you can have.

-30-: Congrats on the new place. Along with CL, I pray for blessings upon your new home.

Now, more stuff. I heard this morning that the guy who invented the Dungeons and Dragons game has died. Pocket protectors are being lowered across the nation.

Now, Favre. Props to paladin. He was initially sceptical about Favre’s retirement. He is not alone. More to come later on that one, to be sure…

Now, Braves. (How about these transitions, huh?) What do you do with Buddy Carlyle? All he does is step up and get batters out. IMHO, the Braves current logjam of talented young outfielders will be used to fill some minor league needs. Look for a trade or two before March 30.

Now, conversation. Here is an interesting question for the B&S faithful. At what position(s) is the current projected roster the weakest?

Good morning…. 😕 <—-my emoticon feels the way I do right about now…
Gil for one night at least, I envy you! This was my 3rd straight night sleeping 3-4 hours tops, then being up for 8 hours or so before falling asleep again..for 3-4 hours….sigh…and thank God I don’t have your terrible pain, so it makes it all the more confusing!
I blame most of my sleep issues from working at Borders books for 4 years….once I got into management, had to drive 35 miles to be at the store at 7 am…then a few days later, leaving the store at 12 midnight! Home by 1 am, asleep no sooner than 4 am…then a few days later, up at 5:30 am to get to work! 😡 Then, after blowing a disc out in my back, I quit that job(before I was fired for having back problems!) and started selling online, ebay, amazon, etc…. no more need to go to bed at 8 pm, no more need to go to bed at all!!!
A friend of mine says one should go to bed when you are tired, and wake up when you have had enough rest. In theory, a good idea…in practice, not so much….when I get in a rut like this, I usually stay up til dawn, then have trouble sleeping, and wake up too soon, and stay groggy all day. Then my body says, I give, I give…and I fall asleep really early for a few nights, and slowly straighten it out to a more reasonable sleep pattern…not so this time….just sleeping 3 hours and waking up like it was a nice power nap, and ready to take on the world….at 3 am…..whine, whine, whine….that’s what you do after sleeping only 3 hours…did I mention that fact??? 3 hours of sleep??? 😉

Raisins… First and third base. Not because of everyday players. It is just their is no real depth at those positions. First base in particular because you have to get pretty deep in the minors before you find anyone projected to start in the major leagues at that position.

The other would be a reliable pinch hitter. Is that considered to be a position? It was a real shame the Braves were not able to keep Ward a couple of years ago.

The sore elbow of Soriento is troubling to me. It is just not what I want to read about. Gonzalas will be able to fill that role possibly about mid summer but right now, I don’t see anyone. Moyland and Acosta were used in the closer spot in the minors but I am not sure about how they would fare in the role at the major league level. I don’t think Tyler Yates can do it. Too many hits given up.

I know, he’s cheap, and we all know he should have been starting every day after about August 1st last year….and I like him…but, we do seem to have too many outfielders right now….though it’s early. So many teams seemed to be desperate for a left fielder, and signed, and or traded for some real junk…..perhaps something will develop once the season starts…

a doily (or doilie) is a small ornamental mat usually made of cotton or linen placed underneath a dish or bowl. openwork allows the table surface to show through. in addition to their decorative function, doilies have a utilitarian role, protecting fine wood furniture from scratches from crockery.

in more recent times, paper doilies have become common, and are often used to decorate a plate of food, underlying the food for ornamentation.

there. no more locker room talk from this journalist – though it was baseball related talk and published on mlb.com. felix pie is a major league ballplayer with what can now be described as a major league hurt. but, jimmy smith is now talking doilies and encourages other bloggers to do so, as well. 😆

Berigan… My internal clock was screwed up by rotating shifts for 35 years. My spare time was taken up by (pick one) the rescue squad, the union, my family.. Who had time for sleep? Once, my first wife and I went away for a weekend, she said she wanted to get away to relax. I said sure, packed the kids off to grandma’s and away we went. I slept for 20 hours straight… She was POed at me for sleeping. I said I thought she said she wanted to get away to relax? I was relaxing…. Told her she needed to be more specific when setting agendas if rest wasn’t what she had in mind.

I use to keep a planner and I would project out days when I had time to rest. Sometimes it would be weeks between “rest” days and I had to guard them tenaciously least someone come up with a reason to plan something for me to do. I guess I have not gotten over that. Of course, if the pain would stop waking me up in the middle of the night, perhaps I would be a nicer person. Sleep deprivation has a way of making one edgy…

Berigan, if you suspect that you have sleep apnea, you need to suck it up and go see that specialist. Apnea can be DEADLY, just ask Reggie White’s widow.

I also have apnea. It was diagnosed about 15 months ago when I spent the night at a sleep clinic. They determined that I was waking up 78 times an hour (approximately every 45-50 seconds)! I’ve been using a cpap machine since then and I am able to get a restful 7-8 hours a night now. My wife sleeps better too since she’s not constantly being woken up by all the noise that I make! Suffice to say that things are a lot more peaceful in our house now, on more than one level!

    Untreated sleep apnea can:

    * Increase the risk for high blood pressure, heart attack, stroke, obesity, and diabetes
    * Increase the risk for or worsen heart failure
    * Make irregular heartbeats more likely
    * Increase the chance of having work-related or driving accidents

As Raisins said, your health is not to be trifled with. Please see a doctor.

And don’t be surprised if Jason Heyward is converted to 1B. This guy has real power and is currently a corner outfielder. He’s also 6’4″/220 and only 18. He is the real deal. Berigan, when you click on the channelsurfing.net page, scroll down and you’ll see the schedule for the day. The link for the Braves game is about half way down the page. Looks like you’ll have to use IE to watch it though for some reason.

Berigan, I also sleep on my side. Got into the habit years ago as my snoring worsened. Sleeping on my side seemed to lessen the noise and now I can’t seem to be able to fall asleep in any other position. The machine is very easy to use and it is very quiet too. There are several types of masks. I use the one that covers my entire nose but there are several types. It’s easy to take on and off and is comfortable. The key to having success with a cpap is a properly fitting mask.

Here’s a website that sells masks to give you an idea of what they look like:

    http://www.cpap-supply.com/CPAP-Masks-s/13.htm

As for the test itself, it took place at a sleep clinic. The room looked very much like a hotel room complete with tv. At the time, because of my apnea, I could fall asleep basically on command, so I didn’t have any issues falling asleep there. Might be different for you of course, but they still be able to determine if you have apnea from all their fancy machines.

Also, on a side note regarding 3B and 1B, from MLB.com: “The club attempted to improve its corner infield depth by selecting third baseman Jonathan Gilmore and first baseman Freddie Freeman with two of its top four Draft picks last year. Let me weigh in on the sleep apnea thing. I (I am told) have the worse kind. It is a hold-over from one of my strokes. Basically, I stop breathing and my brain is slow to “remind” my lungs to get busy. They worry that one time it may be too lazy. After having several of those tests(that I flunked miserably ’cause I couldn’t sleep a wink hooked up to all that crap) I was issued a cpap. It didn’t work for me. I know a number of people that swear by them but the majority are “back” sleepers. I hug my pillow like a long-lost girlfriend and it causes the “airlock” on the mask to break. Consequently, the damn machine wakes me up. So, the machine sits in my closet and I’m going it au natural.
One of the reasons I go to bed so early is to try and squeeze 6 hours or so sleep out of the night. Now the secret is out.

Paladin, there are different types of masks. One that I’ve heard of has something that sticks into each nostril so you don’t need the “airlock”. It is also less claustrophobic, if that is also an issue. I also sleep on my side and as long as I have the mask situated on my face properly I don’t have a problem.

I’m not so sure Dimitroff will pick Ryan at 3. Any QB, even Ryan, is gonna take time to develop. They need impact right away, and could get it with either Ellis or Dorsey, both DTs, which the Falcons need as bad as QB. Or if Jake Long is there, you almost have to grab him. Either of those would pay immediate dividends, whilest Henne or Booty or Woodson or Flakko could develop. I could also see them trade the 3 for more picks, under the right circumstance. With both Miami and St. Louis set at RB, McFadden will still be there at 3 and could garner some serious trade interest. And the Falcons need alot of help.

A good day all around. Braves win. They flirted with a combined no-no, which is big yes yes!!!. Jair pitched three perfect. Tip of the cap to Byrd too. He just keeps on ticking. All the boys box scores looked good on the mound, save a hiccup or two in the 9th until Bean got baked.

The games don’t count but a win is always a good thing.

Was going for six and fortunately (for you and me) I didn’t make it. The crickets were beginning to chirp so loud I got up and answered the door three times.

What’s the record of consecutive posts… and is that a good thing? Hmmm…

    Awww, what the hey.

Klobber, the “new dog ate my homework” Internet excuse… good’un. Trouble is, Grinch’s dog may actually be able to eat the computer. Sounds like a stretch though. Not nearly as good as: Bob can always say that his slipped into the hot tub. Scribe could use the old, “the fish frying fried my keyboard” and Lew could say his cable froze or the wild turkeys pecked a hole in his monitor thinking that trolls were little worms. Turkeys eat worms too, not just millet.

So many good potential excuses for missing work and Braves and Stuff lead posts. Klobber could slosh Knob all over his, Gil could have his ripped away from Richmond and sent to Georgia (that was not intended to be mean…sorry), Chopper could just disappear for days at a time and say that Shamu ate the laptop, Salty could say it rained and poured, flbravesgirl could miss her turn in the lineup by forgetting which batter to work on, Berigan could say that hair got caught in the hard drive, CL could always say that her little feathered friends thought her PC was one of her bird houses, Jimmy Smith could sneeze on the keyboard and blow a circuit (or use that word and have his post vanish in thin air), Raisins could plug his amp into a wall socket and melt the electric panel, WW could blow a circuit in his brain trying to watch 6 sports at once and that’s not even counting college hoops, Flange could forget to show up and miss his turn with the bat… and last but certainly not least, Paladin could mistakenly wrap his computer in bacon on a Saturday night and melt the old computer… or those gerbils that power his PC could go on strike.

So many things can happen to computers and make folks miss their deadline on writing lead posts. So many excuses… feel free to file these in case you come up short. They are all perfectly plausible, interchangeable and free to use at your discretion. These should work in most situations.

Paladin, you have no idea. Unfortunately, I still can’t see it over my gut.

VOR, I assure you the o-line won’t look like this once the season starts. McClure’s undersized but not that bad; Foster and Clabo are big, serviceable backups and Blaylock is a good young guard. They’ll get a free-agent right tackle as a stop-gap and draft the left tackle of the future. It’ll take ’em a while to jell (and another high pick on a lineman next year), but this staff knows what it’s doing. Nobody’s expecting them to win this year, just build a good foundation. I like what I see so far.

Y’all, the whole purpose of re-signing Redman (and word is we may shop for another FA QB as well) was so that our new franchise QB wouldn’t have to play for a year or two until we build a decent o-line. Trust me; they know what they’re doing. The three main guys involved are from New England, Pittsburgh and Jacksonville, with Arthur Blank’s checkbook. This will work.

The potential of this team warms my heart.

But nothing can make the JJS grin,
Then at day’s end, when he walks in his den.

Flips on the TV and what does appear,
But the glorious sight of eight tiny reindeer.

(Eight tiny reindeer? Damn, wrong poem.)

Your eyes sparkle and your sweet lips move,
As you give us the news of gloom and doom.

(Hey, she does work for CNN, right?)

Might the two of your run for Uganda’s border,
Or will she do as Diane (remember? restraining order)?

The blog waits to see what will transpire,
when Blossom is enveloped by love’s true fire.

And if CNN security turns Jimmy away,

But soft! what light through yonder TV breaks?
It is CNN, and Blossom is the sun!–
Arise, fair sun, and kill the envious blue worm,
Who is already sick and pale with grief,
That Fox News art far more fair than CNN:
    Be not her maid, since she is fair and balanced;
Her possum is but sick and green,
And none but and idiots do wear it; cast it off.–
It is my Blossum; O, it is my love!
O, that she knew she were!–
She speaks, yet she says nothing: wattup with that?
Her eye discourses, I will answer it.–
I am too bold, ’tis not to me she speaks:
Two of the fairest stars in all Cordele,
Having some pie, do entreat her stomach
To twinkle in its lining till they return.
What if her toes were there, they on her foot?
The brightness of her toes would shame those stars,
As daylight doth a TV; her eyes in CNN
Would through the airy network stream so bright
That seals would sing and think it were not night.–
See how she leans her nose upon her hand!
O that she wore a glove upon that hand,
That I might not be queasy!

My back deck (which was supposed to come down this summer and should have been dismantled two years ago) caved in under the weight of all the snow. It has been so bad, my landlord has spent all his time shoveling rooves to keep THEM from collapsing.

They are now having to truck snow away from houses and have it dumped in empty fields-there is so much that they can no longer plow driveways because there is no more room to push the snow.

There are Vermont natives who claim they have not seen snow in these amounts their entire fifty year lives. Much more is scheduled for March and could continue through much of June. This has approached insane levels. I’d wish for it all to melt, but that will just cause flooding. Oh!!!The Humanity.

In all seriousness, urgent prayers are needed.

News partially taken from today’s Beaufort Gazette: just found out my friend and associate, Liz Calvert and her husband John Calvert were reported missing earlier this week. The Calverts were last seen at a meeting on Monday night at Harbour Town in Hilton Head, SC.

Late Wednesday night, more than a half-dozen detectives were still working the case, chasing down “anyone and everyone” who might have information on the couple, said Beaufort County Sheriff P.J. Tanner, who led the late-night effort. Officers interviewed family members, friends and business associates.

The couple’s disappearance, Tanner said, is “raising eyebrows.” “This is suspicious because no one has had any contact with them in the past couple of days, which is in unlike the Calverts because they’re active in the community,” Tanner said. “Right now the only thing we can say are there are definitely suspicions here.” “We’re trying to find a reason for all of this,” Tanner said. “Right now, there’s no explanation for it.”

Please pray for the safe return of Liz and John Calvert and also keep their families in your thoughts and prayers.

I set myself a time to go to bed and a time to get up. And I set a nap time. At first, no exceptions. Yes, I lay there for more nights than I like to count, but I finally got on schedule. Mine, obviously, would not work for you. But, when this first started, I was probably about your age and still working. But, pills are not the answer. I tried them all, including melatonin. Nothing. Good luck fella, it ain’t going to be easy, but it can be done.

I wear a 12 EEE just so it will compensate even though my foot is a 10 1/2.. If I buy too narrow a shoe, my feet will cramp and no one is happy then…
