Man, turning 41 turned me into an old man….watching the former home of Braves baseball, TBsomethingoranother. they have a funniest commercials show…on relationships….ice cream lands in man’s lap…woman tries to clean him up…woman seems quite…thrilled by house….by the noises she is making….this would be fine and dandy at 10 Pm, but 8 pm?? Mention of condoms, that’s just what I remember……parents need channel blocker for TBS now???

Ya done reel good with that lead Paladin. Underneath that seasoned old flight jacket with the cracked leather and frayed patches there’s a true baseball romantic in ya. Chill bump stuff on Braves and Stuff. Timing was good too… nice way to end (avoid) your own Braves and Stuff Barbecue.
Those images may be sepia to some but the memories are in full living color for our esteemed senior denizens. Roy Campanella… a legend cut down even before his prime and one of my dad’s favorites. Mickey, Yogi… two of my childhood idols, Hammerin’ Hank… still the home run king…

The consistent misspellings are understood by those of us who’ve seen you since long before the Calabash incident. But, I think they take away from your posts. They are only followed by the select few here, and I think that particular joke’s horse is dead.
Your and idiot is a classic, a trademark, copyright worthy. The others were initially funny, but I would guess that many stopped laughing months ago (way out on the limb now, and I hear cracking). Perhaps, Chop Seel (may I use seal?) could pursue such humor.
Just a random idea, if one of the goals here is to appeal to a wider audience. If not, I wouldn’t mind being told, as I’d hate to clutter a very nice arena.

O’Hillbilly, the Dawgs won only 4 conference games during the regular season. Who would have thought they’d win 4 in 4 days? Those boys were absolutely playing on emotion. They were playing for coach Dennis Felton. Felton is a top notch individual who is succeeding in cleaning up a program still reeling from the Harrick tenure. He booted 2 starters before the season started because they thought they were bigger than the program. They were wrong. He lost 2 more during the season to injury. They played with 10 (sometimes only 9) in uniform this season. As the season was coming to a close, many in the Dawg nation were calling for Felton’s job because of this disastrous season. I salute him. I’d rather take the slow road and do it right, which I believe he will do if they’ll leave him alone. The truth is, they will bow out very early in the NCAA and there will still be many clamoring for Felton’s head. I hope he’s allowed to finish what he started…

By the way… regarding Berigan’s guitar video:
Without getting too technical, that guy was playing in a manner not typical for guitar, but more typical for a hammer dulcimer. He simply used an alternate tuning on the guitar and transposed the dulcimer scales to a 6 string format. He also utilized the harmonic points on the neck. The use of the carbon fiber guitar was helpful because it is a highly resonant material allowing him to “hammer on” with both hands and still produce enough volume to be heard. OK, there will be quiz tomorrow…

It gives us olive complexions and blue eyes…not a bad combination in my youth. I have on my green underwear. It wasn’t green to start with, but it all counts. There is a jazz guitarist named Stanley Jordan that uses 2 hand tapping, but his technique originated from piano. He learned classical piano as a child and utilized the principles of 2 hand playing on the guitar. He is amazing. Check out his version of Eleanor Rigby here:

Klobber, Raisins is of course correct but his explanation might be a bit over the non-musician’s head. To get a general idea, look up “tapping” on wikipedia; one-handed is what most of us mere metal mortals do, two-handed allows for a more classical approach (though some folks like Steve Vai do it to make people like me angry)…the dude on your video has adapted the two-handed technique to a different position he calls “lap tapping.” He’s the only popular guitarist I know that does it exactly that way. The carbon fiber guitar’s particular resonance aids his kind of playing, but I don’t like it as much for traditional acoustic styles as the mid-range sounds different. That material is also impervious to the elements unlike wood; stays in tune easier if you’re playing outdoors. To each his or her own.

Saint Patrick, the short version: He was originally kidnapped and taken as a slave in Ireland. He escaped after years of hard labor. After becoming a missionary, he was “motivated” to return after many years of detesting what they had done to him and considering the “old sod” the last place on earth he would set foot upon. So, with orders, he returned to minister to the Irish that had enslaved him.
After time he was approached by an old Irish spirit, his heart was changed and he began to forgive… even came to love Ireland and considered himself Irish until the end of his days. That’s quite a transition for a man who once referred to the Irish as slave-driving barbarians.
There may indeed be hope for all of us. However, snakes have a problem.

Funny how one post takes on a life of it’s own when and changes when it’s repeated multiple times. Like the old game of… start with a phrase, whisper into one ear with each person repeating into the next ear all the way around the room and when the last person repeats the original story out loud it’s totally different from the original… kind’a like the halls of CNN.
Now, I’d like to know what all this talk is concerning Journalist Jimmy Smith? What is wrong with Journalist Jimmy’s smelling? Could it be that his smeller is acting up? Would that be poetic justice or what? Is it just playful picking? Oh, sorry… bad choice of words. Who nose? Could be dangerous to have a smeller that is out of order. Especially if that smeller is sharing a dog-house with others. Why would that be dangerous you ask?
Well, I heard that Frenchy had beans during the game yesterday. He’s OK now so it’s OK to speak of his lunch. Got that from a reliable source. Why that would be news is a mystery. Anyhoo, hope Frenchy didn’t get in a dog house after that. Anyway, it’s not polite to make fun of someone’s smeller. On the other hand, it takes a smart feller to say a feller’s smart.

Happy St. Patty’s Day, everybody. Gotta run quick and jump back into the frying and flying fish (oh the humanity!), but:
— Dogs. Wow. Amazing. Been a while since I’ve seen a team will itself to accomplish so much with so little in the tank. Before the tournament, I felt the talk of Felton losing his job was wrong, given what the Dogs have put up with this year. Now? No way he should lose his job.
— Braves. Feel so good about this team. Glad Frenchy is not hurt bad. Really gonna get interesting for those final bench and bully spots now. Going to be an interesting final two weeks of camp.
— Tornado. Lots of well wishes from folks across the country filtering into the ol’ inbox. Glad to know the nation is thinking of and praying for the capital city, my hometown. Scary weekend, to say the least, but all my folks are well and accounted for after the storms rolled through this weekend.
OK, back to it. Selah!
Oh, CL, I’ll be thinking of a lead. What do you think, end of the week? I’ll get it ready sooner if you need it!

Raisins, Stevie Ray and Jeff Beck…good stuff my man in any generation at any time. Saw Jeff Beck in concert with Bogart and Appice but never managed to catch Vaughn. Unfortunate, but it seems for many, music is a generational thing, I don’t really agree but who knows, it’s probably just in the ear of the beholder. For instance, if music was truly generational, this might be Lew’s generation.
Then, to take it a step further, you have something more along the lines of WW’s stuff here.

Would you please give me some idea as to the number of Braves games that won’t be available. It seems as though I would get all of them except for the Saturday day games. Is this true? The website is vague (to me), and there still isn’t a 2008 schedule. I’d hate to buy that thing, and find out that I’ll only see three or four games a week.
Also, are there any exhibition games broadcast? Thank you.

Paladin… sorry you didn’t like it. It’s just a rock video. Not real life and the singer really isn’t rude at all.
Sometimes you have to look beneath the obvious to get the story. The video was an example of someone going through a crisis, not intending to hurt anyone, suffering with each step, trying to move forward. That’s all.
Like, in Steven Covey’s example in his 7 Habits book… there was a man on a subway that was so caught up in his own busy, troubled life he couldn’t imagine anyone else’s situation… or their suffering… only his own.
As he rode on the subway one morning he got ticked because a father in the same car wasn’t controlling his kids. They were running up and down the aisles, squealing and playing. He figured that this white trash must be a drug addict or some kind of riff raff that had no business raising kids.
Finally, fed up and blood pressure rising… imagining all sorts of negative things about the kids irresponsible father, he had all he could take and barked at the dad and told him to, “quiet those damn out of control brats”. Then he said, “one of them stepped on my foot”. He added, “why don’t you have respect for the other passengers here and shut them up?
The father, who had been just staring blankly at the floor the whole time and obviously not watching the kids was startled at the outburst. He looked up at the irate passenger and apologized. He called his kids over by his side and quieted them.
Then he looked back at the man across from him and softly explained that he was just trying to cope and had forgotten about his children for a few minutes. He apologized again and said, “please forgive me and the kids for disturbing you and stepping on your toes and for being so noisy.
Then, the dad teared up and said, “We just buried their mom this morning.”
The angry passenger was floored. He couldn’t speak. He just sat there the rest of the trip and thought about how he had assumed the worst about the father and how he had misinterpreted the whole scene that played out before him.
So, to be fair… try the video again. Close your eyes if you think the singer isn’t playing the part of your image of a young, wholesome, virile man… and just listen again if you’re open to it. It’s a great song and has lot’s of special meaning… to me anyway. It’s one of my favorites, in a spiritual way.
We can’t always trust first impressions or the obvious.

I got to see Stevie Ray Vaughan AND Jeff Beck n the same bill. Beck opened up that night.
Without a doubt, Beck was the best guitarist I’ve ever seen and I’ve seen most of the really good ones. Vaughan was good, but died about two or three weeks after the tour.

BASteve-You should be able to get almost all of the Braves’ games with the package, but I have no idea how many were on TBS and NOT on Extra Innings, as I usually watched the TBS feed when possible. I know there was overlap, but not sure how much. I would imagine you would get at least 90% of the Braves games, though some would be the other team’s feed. I usually miss one or two games a year, but I have XM radio, too, so several were on there, because you will NOT get any Saturday game that is on FOX. No Saturday games before 7 o’clock are on Extra Innings.

The melody to one is in my mind now but I can’t think of the title. I will.

Esteemed Journalist-Actually he didn’t make it through the tour, which was a comeback tour for him after defeating alcohol and substance abuse (or at least getting a handle on it). Later in the tour, he was opening for Eric Clapton and took a helicopter to the next venue. The copter crashed somewhere in Michigan, killing all aboard.
I was so floored with Jeff Beck’s performance (like I said, he was the best guitarist I ever saw), that I was ready to leave after his set. A friend of mine insisted we stay for the Vaughan set. I’m really glad I did. Not only did I see one of his final performances, but saw a great show. The man could definitely play the blues in all it’s incarnations.
Saw his brother Jimmy play late last year. The Grinch told me not to expect a show nearly as good as Stevie Ray’s. The Grinch was right. Jimmy Vaughan was nowhere near as good as his brother. Not even close.

Raisins-Japanese Ted Nugent tribute band? The Japanese band Loudness, perhaps? I always likened them to a Japanese Kiss (speaking of Gene Simmons), but Nugent works.
I’ve seen the Gene Simmons show and all I can say is this-Shannon Tweed is a bona fide Babe and those kids of theirs are great. I’ll adopt them anytime they need adopting. They do NOT take their father overly seriously-nor should they.

Lots of stuff today… I share much blame.
Now, baseball. Hamp goes 4 1/3, gives up 2 hits, 1 run w/ 3 BB’s, 3 K’s. He threw, (are you ready?), 75 pitches. He also bunted twice and ran the bases with no tweaks or twists. Promising, even if cautiously, to say the least.
ESPN headline – Colon rocked Colons are not to be trifled with. Could lead to distension. Very uncomfortable. jjs would be queasy.

Jimmy Smith, why would I want to get on you? Have you given me a reason? And why on earth would you bring up SJA? Perhaps there’s a private dialog I’m not privy to. Beats me. Anyway, no, I have no reason to “get on” you. You’ve never physically threatened anyone or resorted to vulgar or distasteful behavior like some that have raised my ire in the past. So that you know, I regret that I had differences with the jackass… or anyone else for that matter. That’s not why I blog and it’s not how I live.
Nor do I blog to sit back and snipe at folks or start trouble. Enough of that in the world. Like you, I enjoy the fellowship of denizens, I enjoy being entertained and I enjoy trying to entertain others as well.
There are plenty of snippy twits on blogs around the world but they are not my concern either. If someone doesn’t like what I bring to the forum, it’s not a big deal. It’s disappointing, but fundamentally… no problem whatsoever. I don’t keep score cards or hold grudges, nor do I expect everyone to like what I say or believe what I believe.
That being said, if spit balling becomes a noticeable and persistent habit, then the purpose and enjoyment of the blog is lost for me. That’s it. No long “powerful post to right the wrongs of the blog” is necessary, yet it seems my sincerity and passion in those efforts you referred to escaped you anyway. I think I can actually live with that as well.
If I had the ability to write what I just wrote in a few short lines I would have. Well, maybe not. Brevity is not a strong suit here. Then again, it’s quick to toss an accusation… takes longer to defend or clarify.
Bottom line, I don’t have any problems that are caused by any blog, nor do I have anyone to scold, attack or get onto. Not you Jimmy. Not even any windmills to attack. I had a great day and haven’t enjoyed blogging as much as I have today.
Please, carry on with your witty self. I’ve no reason to be confrontational.

Paladin, you need to share that Russian jet link with everyone else. That jet is freaking insane. Also wanted to tell ya good choice with your blog lead. In college, my hitting coach had a homemade mix tape with the Willie, Mickey, and the Duke song, Fogerty’s Centerfield, Springsteen’s Glory Days, Sinatra’s New York, New York, the Joltin’ Joe Dimaggio song, the Did You See Jackie Robinson Hit That Ball song, the Say Hey Willie Mays song, the Yankees theme song, the Let’s Go Mets song and a few other classics that are slipping my mind. He used to drive us crazy with it because he would not let us play any rap or rock during long bus rides. We had to listen to his tape the whole way. He would play that darn tape during every bus ride and during every batting practice. The worst part of it was that for no reason at all, the tape always ended with Sinatra’s My Way. But after my last college game in my senior year, I made sure I got into his van on the 3 hour bus ride home so that I could listen to that tape one last time all the way home. So, thanks. I love that song because it brings back so many good memories.

She’s pretty much sedated with all the pain meds right now. The orthopedic surgeon said her leg was the worst break he’d ever seen so obviously we’re worried about that. At this point we just have to wait for the worst of the pain to subside & see what’s next.

Klobber, I played at Iona College up in New Rochelle, New York. It’s a small Catholic school. But it was NCAA Division I baseball. About 8 kids have been drafted out of Iona this decade. Dennis Leonard, the old Royal, was the best player to come out of there. Jason Motte is about the most prominent player from the school right now. He’s a minor leaguer with the Cardinals. It was pretty cool watching him pitch against the Braves last week in spring training. It’s also the school that launched Jim Valvano before he left us for N.C. State fame

I think Motte just might make it eventually. He’s probably an injury waiting to happen though. He short arms the ball. He throws gas though. He was drafted as a catcher but was converted to pitcher by the Cards when he couldn’t hit. All that catching I think causes him to shortarm it a bit

Klobber, I was just okay. I threw pretty hard (85-88 mph) and had alot of wiggle on the ball – almost too much. Throwing strikes could be a bit of a problem. I never really developed another pitch either. Being 6’6″ and not yet fully matured, it was hard at times to coordinate the body right. I wasn’t good enough to be drafted or anything but it was alot of fun.

WW, I’m a fan of minor league ball, so I see a lot of young men that are in the process of becoming comfortable in their bodies. The tall kids, like you, are almost always gawky when they come through A ball. In fact, at that age, it’s unusual to see many guys that are “filled out”. Frenchy was just a skinny kid when I first saw him. I remember seeing Adam Wainwright when he played for Rome and you could just tell that he wasn’t yet used to being so tall.
Anyway, you must have some great memories from your college baseball days.

FBG, I played high school basketball. We were quite good. Ranked #1 in the state for the Division II level in New York our entire senior year. We won a few New York City championships but always choked in the semifinals in the state championships. All 15 players on the team played college football, basketball, baseball, golf, or lacrosse. We even cut Verron Haynes from the team. He was just a freshman back then but he probably should have been starting on the varsity. I know ya’ll have seen the Under Armour We Must Protect This House commercials. The big fella who screams that in the commercial was on that team. He played in the NFL for ten seasons. he mostly followed Bill Parcells around wherever he went to coach. But baseball was my love and my focus. In fact, when we lost in the semis my senior year, I was the only one in the room not crying because I could finally go play baseball.

Interesting about the first line of your blog-Having been born in Philadelphia the year AFTER the Whiz Kids, growing up was similar to what Cubs’ fans go through. It was not until I was 29 that the Phillies made it back to the Series. They won it that time. I think I saw almost everyone player that your lead mentions-or at least knew who every one of them was. Things sure have changed. It’s like those commercials-Baseball, Hot Dogs, Apple Pie, Chevrolet and Rally Monkeys. At least Pete and Skip’s BBQ was a worthy addition.

Salty, even with the mannerisms…Anderson is quirky, sure, but he’s also original, highly intelligent, and extremely physically animated on stage. Stippy is a pseudo-intellectual, unoriginal (wannabe beatnick), trite, boring, unapproachable poseur who’s as exciting to watch on stage as a bowl of cold oatmeal.

Johnny Carson once made a comment about there being no seasons in Southern California-claimed they did have seasons, but they were known as Flood, Mud, Fire and Earthquake. Not too much different here, either. They’re just known as Fall Foliage (time of the Leaf Peepers), Snow, Mud and Summer. Mud season is coming soon-it takes the place of spring. I have seen snow in all months up here (though not every year) except July and August. It has snowed as late as June and as early as September.
April showers may bring May flowers in the mid-Atlantic States, but not up here.

I don’t want to be chicken little but this Bear Stearns thing is just the tip of the iceberg. We are in for a rough ride and there may be some “jumpers” in NY before long. I was born 2 years after the Great Depression but it was still effecting our family when I was old enough to know what was going on. JJS, I had a very interesting day in my Dad’s Lincoln today! I was sitting outside my Gym, talking to my best friend on my cellphone. This older(well gray haired at least) African-American came up to me, and was telling me how much he loved my car….This one is not in good shape like my Yellow Lincoln, or my Dad’s black one that is garaged….rust, dents, needs a roof…but, sometimes people will say something nice about it….Still on the phone, next thing I know he says he needs to ask for a favor….after having just about every sob story thrown at me thru the years, I no longer give money since every time when I look back, it was a scammer…no, he didn’t want money, just needed a ride “up the road” he was almost in the passenger seat before I could say yes…I figured, older guy, daylight…on the phone with my friend…I have long hair, goatee, I’m 6 foot, 240…no one would pull something on me, right???? Plus, just a ride “up the road”….find the guy is going thru a bad time, just separated from his wife of 11 years…seemed like a real story. I could smell alcohol on his breath….loves my car, he says over and over…hmm….needs a ride back to the pool hall in near the gym…I was going back, right??? Oh yeah…going back…never mentioned I was going to the gym, parked in side lot, not main one since it was crowded…
So, we go down the road….where we going???? I thought he was going to grab a bottle I figured….no….where???? Going to see his boss for a few bucks, gonna give me some gas money of course….we keep going down the road…where are we going???? Just make a right here…my friend was hearing all this via the phone, and thought this was all terribly funny. I didn’t. I was starting to think something was wrong here. He truly didn’t look like a threat, dressed very well(For a cook at a Ruby Tuesdays-that’s what he said he was) but cussed a lot….and said about 20 times how he was going back to the pool hall, which had me convinced he wasn’t planning on going back…kept patting me on the shoulder….man, did I feel stupid at this point. Was berigan going to end up on the news??? Said we were in the black part of town, to act like I belong, Ha, ha, ha…Berigan wished he had bought a gun at some point in the past, right then…
We drive way down to Union city area…tell him I will need to get gas, and how I need to get back for dinner with my Dad…oh, he needed to get back to…but, we were still driving….finally get to some building right next to a CVS. Sees some of his “pals” on a 2nd level. Says hello…wants me to part along the side of the building. I like it right in front though. He gets out and looks back at me and says…”Don’t drive away on me! My coat is in the back seat!” I agree with him and as soon as he walks away, I grab his coat, throw it out the window, and burn out of the parking lot!!! Not, sure where I was headed, except away from him!!!!
Berigan is usually a LOT smarter than this, and I hope I can serve as a warning to everyone here….Who knows what he had planned for me…helping with a drug deal, having his buddies rob me, take my car…who knows???? Still, very stupid on my part, trying to be a nice guy…Now, trying to be a nice guy has royally bleeped me. I am goning to fear going to my gym…all we have are old Lincolns. Raisins, I just tried your links to Keaggy and was astonished I’d never heard of him (he totally jams)…followed some more links and then started reading the comments on youtube under his songs. Almost all of them were “Blessed unto Christ is he,” and such things. It’s a shame that when you put your beliefs out it causes you to become a niche performer. As always, I wasn’t listening to the lyrics (when there were any) and I would never have known. Someone like Clapton may or may not be a Christian (I have no idea) but because he has no public stance on it he’s sold umpteen million records. Strange.

Berigan, I get the same thing every time I drive my Monte Carlo (though I must admit, it’s in good shape). I got so tired of Gangstas coming up to my door at all hours wanting to buy it I finally had to put a cover on it and park it behind a Magnolia tree. Funny, they never bother me in my Acura which is worth twice as much. Stick to the sistahs. 🙂

I guess it’s because I go to school in Georgia; I’m sure it’s different in Cali or NY. Actually, it’s different in Atlanta; it’s really only about 50% where I’m at now. But Ga. Southern? There were 18,000 students of which about 70% were hot chicks. I think I found ONE that was an English major instead, and she was ugly. 🙂

Perhaps it is inappropriate to so say but methinks them what can’t create frequently find it appropriate to appropriate. Regardless of rationality, folks rationalize their behavior … those who looted and took electronics … flat screen TVs and computers in New Orleans, were just trying to survive.
Lincoln said that you can fool some of the people all of the time … and while I’m not sure that I totally agree, it does seem clear that what most folks see and hear is a matter of desire, convenience and preconception.
At the same time, methinks when one writes so as to achieve a certain effect … and there are those within the audience who are not “properly” influenced, the writer should be concerned with his own effectiveness rather than being critical of the unenlightened members of his audience.
When you see no reason for someone’s negative or inflammatory comments, it’s not because there aren’t reasons … and when someone else rises to the bait, you can take that to the bank!
The notion of innocent until proven guilty is spoken from the pulpit of them what are in fear of exposure and punishment … guilt comes with the doing of the deed and has nothing to do with proof of having so done … fancy rhetoric isn’t going to change that.
However, it is appropriate for the accused to defend themselves … I spent too many hours over the past few days, debating the proper role of the defense attorney with folks well acquainted with the law … our debate related to the attorney being the champion/advocate of the accused with the objective of taking advantage of the system so as to “get the client off” regardless of guilt … versus one of seeing that the client’s rights are protected and that a proper defense is effected. Too many hours indeed … but, while it may be appropriate, methinks there’s truth in the adage that he who defends himself has a fool for a client.
Defensive rhetoric is defensive rhetoric, regardless of how offensive it may appear … truth is truth … how one is perceived is oftentimes different from one’s self perception, but those who replace their mirrors with self portraits often have difficulty telling the difference.

I know it was unfair “some ramblings with transitions” is deceptive as the transitions are hidden … in fact, I removed some that were not. You can rest assured that nothing was pointed at you … indeed, they were simply observations without poison tips on the arrows … though it may not be so perceived … you well know that my mind triggers are of their own creation.
My insights must be improving … I emailed a mutual friend just after the 9:37 … “I did just post something which may well cause some to scratch their heads” … time to check the peas.

No baseball tonight, I hope the good guys took advantage of the downtime.
Berigan, the mini series is being aired on HBO. It will be a while before I can watch it but I may break down and buy the DVD if it is any good. The thing I miss about working opposite shifts from the wife was I use to watch the History Channel and such when the games were not on. Now it is back to the drivel of network TV…. Well, there have indeed been some good 3:48s … I remember them well!
But, when it comes to Braves and Lefties …
I listen to TP and like what I hear … methinks he understands hitting … but, I’m not so sure he understands how to get folks on the same page … the idea is to best the pitcher and some of our boys seem to think that means to show them who’s boss.
Methinks many players rely on cheerleaders and self portraits rather than mirrors too … the coaches are the mirrors … or at least they should so be.
When some of them get up against Lefties, they seem to think they have far less time to react than they actually do … methinks the coaching staff can address that problem, if only they will.
I never paid much attention to the hand with which the pitcher threw … see the ball, hit the ball … worked good agin them what loved their fastball too much … not so good against the “drop” or “fork” … but, as time went on, pitch recognition became my best friend … and it was pitcher specific, regardless of righty/lefty. Of course, then there came the day when it didn’t much matter ’cause they all got me out, or so it seemed.
Methinks that if you can properly recognize the pitch and what it is going to do, you should be able to adjust and control the bat and your swing so as to have a good chance of besting the pitcher … that or become a beet righter.
What I can’t understand are good hitting pitchers … of course, the Babe was one … Mike Hampton ain’t bad. it’s sort of an Alpha Male thing … i had bowlers who couldn’t beat me … though if I shot 256, they might roll 255 … those same bowlers; if I shot 144, they would find a way to shoot lower … in golf, it’s much the same … so much more is above the neck than folks realize.
There’s absolutely no good logical reason why some players even bother to take a bat to the plate … they’re beaten mentally before they step into the box … it is amazing to me that pitchers, playing every fifth day and getting perhaps 2 opportunities at the plate have any success whatsoever … I stand in awe … not because of their athletic ability but because of their mental abilities. It is indeed a mental thing for you cannot perform with any chance of success without the confidence to so do … and you cannot have such confidence when you are so over matched … yes, it’s mental … I’ve decided that they’re too stupid to recognize the situation in which they find themselves … I suppose that sometimes self portraits are better than mirrors.

Now Gil, you made that up … the people you can fool all of the time are now called the life of the party unless it’s the Communist Party and then they’re the marks … of course, it is true that one has to get elected or someone else’s agenda will be effected. The problem is that all we know about those agendas is that they’re all the same … to get elected. We know nothing about the true agendas of those who lose … and only find out about those of the winners after it’s too late.

Drive by blog. I have to travel today… about 1 1/2 hours NW to do about 1/2 – 1 hour of work, and drive 1 1/2 back. 😐 It only makes sense in my business. Problem is, it cuts a 3 hour chunk out of today’s productivity. It’ll be another late night. 🙄 Can’t complain, though. Many in my industry have folded their tents in the midst of the housing toilet. I am blessed and thankful.

Top of the morning, folks. Gotta make this quick, as the fish have been flying like crazy all week down here along the southern rim of the capital city …
And what a mental picture that must be. But I digress …
I’m taking the plunge today (no, not that plunge; did that several years ago) and ordering the Extra Innings package. Spent most of last night in the garage working and watching hoops on TV, now that I have cable out there. Can’t wait to spend the next six months out there watching baseball.
Off day yesterday. No Braves game, but watched part of the Nats and Tigers and saw the vaunted Detroit machine get taken apart by Washington. Not based on one spring training game, obviously, but methinks the Nats will be decent this year. They’re going to give the Big Three in the East fits.
Jo Jo tonight, eh? Did I read that right? Good outing for Hampton Monday. Same for Chuck against the Indians’ Single-A team. No way Chuck’s going north, though. Some time in Richmond to start might be a really good thing.
And speaking of guys who should’ve started a season in Richmond (but injuries forced him to be in Atlanta last April), looks like Kyle Davies has a good shot at the fourth or fifth spot for the Royals. Heard he likes it there, bunch of younger guys and all that. Good kid, wish him well. Be fun to watch him pitch on a regular basis, so I guess I’ll call the cable company today and order the season package.
I hope Mother Nature keeps things a little calmer today as another line moves through the Big A.

Yes, I have been telling you folks that Nats are not to be trifled with… Washington does not yet have a team that can win the division but they do have a team that can create a lot of havoc among the leaders. The real difference in winners and also rans appears to me to be the ability to avoid prolonged losing streaks while being able to put together occasional winning streaks.
Atlanta never had the pitching to sustain winning last year but if Hudson and Smoltz slipped there was no one to really stop the slide.

There seems to be deep, thought provoking and public purpose to your opine… something you are trying to say and someone you are directing your comments to, but it all escapes me. Did someone steal your radio or other electronic device? Has there been a trespass or a theft you refer to? Can we help?
So many questions. Bob, please share your concerns with us. Inquiring minds are curious and there seems to be something troubling you… since you brought it up and all. Do those of us that are not privy to inside baseball the honor of bringing us into the clubhouse so that we can understand what lays beneath those many layers of the onion you are unfolding.
Perhaps the message is purposefully cryptic and the onion intended to be understood by only a certain one or few… sort of a private/public morse code kind of thing?
If that is the case, we’ll just dine on French Onion Soup. Mmm…

Now, more on snipes.
I’ve got an old, classic Sauer Barretta manufactured in Germany, 12 gauge over under with a full choke on top and modified full on the bottom barrel. Very tough as a skeet gun, throwing such a tight pattern… unless the targets are about 80 yards out. Now, that is a snipe gun for an expert.
Too bad an expert skeet shooter doesn’t own it.

I have learned the hard way that my taste in vehicles is not directly translated to my offspring. This means my only function is to get the best deal on the vehicle of someone else’s choosing. That said, I have no clue to the rhyme or reason by which they choose the models that they do. Nor can I find any value personally in 4 wheel drive here in Virginia as we do not get enough snow to justify the cost. That is not to say my children do not want a vehicle so equipped.
I will keep you posted on the final outcome but the dealer(s) know our terms and I expect they shall think about it for a few days and then relent. The real chore is to root out the hidden cost they like to sneak in.

Yeah? Well, My day usually goes like this:
Get up…no, scratch that. Roll over and go back to sleep.
Get up later, go to bathroom.
Feed Grinch pup.
Look in mirror, decide if shower’s required.
Decide yes, but not going to anyway.
Sift through pile of clothes on floor; sniff test for what to wear.
Put on, brief check in mirror for food stains.
Run beard trimmer over head if necc; once every week or two easier than brushing hair every day.
Spray Axe body spray liberally.
Drive thru fast food; breakfast or lunch depending on what time it happens to be.
Drive to school; sit in student center and hit on chicks
Get on the computer if unsuccessful.
Go to consecutive afternoon classes.
Drive home in rush hour traffic, complain.
Stop by liquor store.
Stop by grocery, get dog food, meat, charcoal, and toilet paper.
Feed Grinch pup.
Drink and grill.
Pass out.
Repeat. 🙂

Gil-I’ve always avoided four wheel drive, but after this winter, I just don’t know. It might pay for itself in decreased towing and plowing charges. At least I can get a smaller, hybrid 4 wheel drive. Now if only Chevy would come up with an answer to the Subaru Forrester, I’m in business. I prefer buying American . Baseball, hot dogs, apple pie and Subaru? Doesn’t sound quite right.

Gil, that’s why most everyone in my family drives Honda/Acuras. Can buy a decent car now that’ll actually get you where you’re going without the bumper falling off and actually be getting something that’s made and assembled in America. You won’t believe this but CL rode a small Harley a one point in her life. True. After Kelly, rearrangement of priorities required selling of bike in fantastic condition. Money from the sale purchased cribs, baby clothes, paid doctor/hospital bills, etc. But I enjoyed it for the time I had it. My family hasn’t gotten over it yet.

Hi y’all! Had the cable guy install another digital box this morning so now we can watch ExtraInnings on 2 TVs ( which really means Dad can flip between Braves & Red Sox on his TV while I just watch the Braves).

Here’s a music tip for all you SRV fans. Get an album called Strong Temptation by Sean Chambers. (you’ll probably need to get a used copy from Amazon or someplace). The Kid, as he’s called in Central Florida, started out in a SRV Tribute band called Double Threat. This CD is about half cover tunes (nasty version of Johnny Winter’s Mean Town Blues + some Buddy Guy and Freddie King) and half his own compositions. I even had the Grinch pick up a $3 copy in Orlando.
I’ve seen this guy at least 20-30 times. A buddy of mine and I used to party with the band between sets at The Ringside Cafe in St. Pete. This guy can really play guitar. You’ll like him a lot if you get into hard Texas Blues.

Well, I hope Grinch showered to meet me in Orlando. I was on the receiving end of a big bear hug & I have to say he smelled pretty good (I think I would have noticed if he was a little gamey).

Absolutely NO tattoos! Rode with my Aunt Jenny Lee who taught me (and some of my cousins). Now SHE could ride a bike! And any horse born.

Only got a sec; the baseball player’s union is talking about investigating teams for collusion because nobody’s making public offers to Barry Bonds. The only offers he should be receiving are offers to kick his $%# by any real fan of the game, and other players for that matter. Wonder if they’d investigate for collusion if he was white?
